A Call to Artists: RFPs for Public Art
During the holiday season with temperatures dropping, snowfall accumulating, and colorful lights and decorations going up everywhere, it can be difficult to imagine the nearing of spring. However, many government agency purchasers are quite aware of how soon the spring season approaches. Before the change of seasons, they are hoping to procure innovative artistic services to create site-specific and community integrated works of art for outdoor public display.

Public art is a growing and financially advantageous business. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing and intellectually absorbing, but it also provides numerous long-term economic benefits. It creates more attractions for culture and tourism, which can increase urban development, infrastructure, and other construction projects. People often spend the spring season traveling and vacationing and their choice of destination has a lot to do with the frequency of cultural and artistic allure. Tourists travel from all over the world to see thought-provoking, abstract, and avant-garde statues and sculptures as well as beautiful, surreal, and postmodern murals.

Of course, spring is the season for erecting outdoor sculptures and painting murals among other types of artwork, but indoor public art, which comes in many forms, is a year-round business. Sometimes, it is also a quite lucrative trade. In fact, the City of Anaheim, California recently awarded a nearly $650,000 contract to Mikyoung Kim Design, LLC in April of 2015 to design and install public art at the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC). The proposed project will appear as early as January of 2016 and involves constructing the grand staircase with specially designed lenses to reflect natural light and give the illusion of being on clouds while walking up and down the stairs.

Local agencies are always looking to brighten their communities with creative pieces of modern art. Many towns, cities, campuses, and other metro areas are realizing that public art is very valuable to its heritage and longevity. Hoping to improve the quality of life of residents and visitors as well as promote economic development, RFPs flow quite consistently out of the government marketplace all over the country for the creation of public art projects. Artists and designers as well as firms specializing in sculpture, mural, and artwork restoration and maintenance must look no further than Find RFP to be able to find opportunities of interest.
